Seeking justice in athletics
• In a precedent setting case before the Court of Arbitration for Sport,
DRH&R helped refine International Olympic Committee policy on the
eligibility of athletes with dual citizenship in international competition.
The case involved a former collegiate All-America baseball player, now in
the major leagues, and the International Baseball Federation.
• DRH&R represented a former major-college coach in year-long
proceedings before the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). The
violations, which resulted in probation for the Division I school, were
unusual. The infractions did not involve student-athletes, prospective
student-athletes, extra benefits, recruiting inducements, or academic
improprieties seen in typical infractions cases. In their findings, the NCAA
determined that the coach should not be formally sanctioned.
• The firm successfully represented a former Major League Baseball player
in claims against a former business manager involving unsuitable investments
made over a 10-year period.
